Faith and community: the Marian devotion at Hofhegnenberg Castle

The Marian devotion at Hofhegnenberg Castle has combined living faith, historical tradition and communal togetherness in a unique location since the 17th century.

The annual Marian devotion at Hofhegnenberg Castle is deeply rooted in the history of the building. Its origins date back to the time of the Thirty Years' War, when the castle was saved from destruction by the miraculous survival of the statue of the Virgin Mary. Since then, the castle chapel has been a place of pilgrimage where the Virgin Mary is honoured as the protector of the castle and village.

The celebrations begin with the consecration and honouring of the statue of the Virgin Mary, followed by a church service in the historic castle chapel. Afterwards, visitors and hosts come together in the inner courtyard to share a buffet, socialise and cultivate tradition. The Marian devotion is therefore not just a religious event, but a living expression of culture, history and solidarity.
