Handmade mulled wine from the castle kitchen: making mulled wine with Clara Löw - a.TV

During Advent, nothing is left to chance at Schloss Hofhegnenberg - even the mulled wine for the Kipferlmarkt is traditionally made by hand in the castle kitchen.

Together with her team, Schloss Herrin Clara Löw prepares several thousand litres of mulled wine for the annual Kipferlmarkt - red, white and non-alcoholic for children. They use selected wines from their own vineyards in South Africa and Franconia, fresh oranges and lemons as well as classic spices such as cinnamon, aniseed and cloves. The mulled wine is gently heated, not boiled, and carefully flavoured over a period of hours - genuine craftsmanship instead of a finished product.

Making mulled wine is an integral part of the preparations for the Kipferlmarkt, which has been a highlight of Steindorf's community life for decades. The culinary offerings are complemented by homemade vanilla crescents made to an original Austrian recipe, a musical programme, church services and activities for children. Schloss Hofhegnenberg thus combines enjoyment, tradition and community in the Advent season.
