Hofhegnenberg Castle has characterised the municipality of Steindorf for centuries. First mentioned in documents as early as the 12th century, the village developed from a defence and observation point to a castle and later a palace. For Mayor Paul Wecker, the estate is still a central point of reference for economic, cultural and religious activities in the region.
He particularly emphasises the restoration work carried out by Peter Löw and the European Heritage Project, which has breathed new life into the castle. Events such as the annual Kipferlmarkt, which originated from a citizens' initiative, make the castle a lively place for the community. The mayor cites the castle chapel as a personal favourite detail - a room that impressively combines history, faith and regional identity.
